Simple...........but outstanding (5 stars) It is said that this is their worst album. I disagree..........it is one of their best! Excellent harmonies and early on "unplugged sound". Truly a classic album! | | | | Close To Country Rock, But Too Short (4 stars) Note: This is a re-issue until Rhino Records releases the Remastered Expanded version.
Even though this CD barely garnered a hit, "Saw A New Morning" and was poorly received by the public, the concerts were still going strong during this period (1973). Hedging more towards country, The Bee Gees crafted some fine acoustic work here with, "South Dakota Morning, "Living In Chicago" and the upbeat rocker, "Come Home Johnny Bride". "I Don't Wanna Be The One" and "My Life Has Been A Song" are a tad bit of the old cornball ballads. However, "While I Play" is a Barry Gibb standout cut. Recorded with such celebrated studio musicians as, Jim Keltner on drums, pianist Jane Getz, 'Sneaky Pete' on steel guitar and the Bee Gees own, Alan Kendall, this album is first rate. It is a shame it only clocks in at less than 33 minutes.

| | | | 1 of 2 under-rated CD's by the Bee Gees (5 stars) While The Bee Gees were enjoying the success of their biggest selling albums like "Main Course" and "Spirit's Having Flown". There was 2 albums that were very under-rated because neither produced any hits. One of them titled "Mr. Natural" released in 1974 and this diamond in the ruff "Life In A Tin Can" released in 1973. I guess you could call these years for the Bee gees as the transition years from soft rock to the disco era. While Mr. Natural brought us closer to the upcoming new sound. Life In A Tin Can gave us the scenic route through the country (music) side of the Brothers Gibbs. All the selections on this CD are easy listening and relaxing tunes. I think that "Come Home Johnny Bridie" and "While I Play" had the potential of being top 40 country hits for the trio. And while I'm not a fan of remakes as I mention in my other reviews. I think "South Dakota Morning" would be perfect for country music's greatest Mr. Alan Jackson. | | | | Pop the Tab on the Can, This Album Has Plenty of Life!!! (5 stars) In the long list of forgotten, overlooked, disgarded albums is this album from 1973. It seems that around this time in the Early 70's every older artist or group was in a period of transition, but this really wasn't the case at all, the bottom line is that record companies didn't promote the albums or people themselves temporarily forgot about this artists or group and went in other area's of music. Other artists such as Elvis, Orbison, Every Brothers, Beach Boys, just to name a few were at a all time low in record sales, in all these cases the music was good as always, but lack of record label promotion and lack of interest from the record buying public at this time, the records were commercial flops. As far as this album is concerned, the title track "Saw a Brand New Morning" seems to be full of life and a Ideal lead off track for the album, but the ballads follow. One of the finer ballads on the album is "Living in Chicago" This album contains only 8 songs, but they are good and just important as any in the Bee Gee catalogue. Many people consider this the weakest album by the Bee Gees, in terms of hit singles, none, and in sales, I suppose it is, but NOT in terms of QUALITY, It ranks with their BEST!!!! | | | |
