Be careful if you're looking for a collection of his most popular hits! (3 stars)
The collection is good quality. They are the original recordings; but I bought this disc before noticing one thing....where the heck is "Rocky Mountain High"???? How dare they call this disc his "Greatest Country Hits", without including that one? It's probably one of his 3 most famous songs. Not to mention, that "Leavin' On A Jet Plane" should have also been included. Now I have to purchase a 2nd CD to go along with this one, just so I can truly have a collection of his hits. |  | | | Like it or not- HE WAS COUNTRY ! (4 stars)
I have this album on vinyl, so I can hear how its supposed to sound. John Denver was a Folk-Country artist. Someone commented how this Album is not Country Music. They must not know anything about- or very little about Country Music. Because Country is not just one thing- its a lot of things- and John Denver was certainly more Country than Rock or Pop or Classical. His songs like "Thank God , I'm a Country Boy" Annies Song" and "Rocky Mountain High", and of course "Take Me Home, Country Roads" are all Country Classics. What a brilliant voice and songwriter he was.

This is a fabulous cd. I love John Denver's voice and think his song writing is lyrical, poetic, and soothing. I am not a country music fan and think he was unfairly put in that category later in his career because that is where many "folk" singers had their music placed. When I received this cd on my birthday I cringed at the title as I HATE country music. But after listening, there is very little "country" music on it as we know. This cd contains the famous songs like Annie's Song and Thank God I'm a Country boy. But there are some gems I have never heard before such as Autograph and Fly Away and Looking For Space which also stand out.It's really ironic how John Denver died in a plane crash. So many of his songs are filled with the theme of flying. I highly recommend this cd for the non-country music lover who likes mellow music. | | | | Aaaahhhh Sweet Sweet Johnny Denver (5 stars)
First, Let me clarify that I am NOT a fan of country music. I never have been and never will be. However, there is something about John Denver's sweet voice and amazing talent that melts my very soul when i listen to this album. I just adore him.
The Live version of "Thank God, I'm a Country Boy" is just great and this is a really wonderful collection of songs. Listening to John Denver is a little like being wrapped in a warm blanket by a nice fire. The man was a genius songwriter. | | | | What's wrong with John Denver (4 stars)
I could never understand why country music was so against John Denver. In the 70's when Denver was big, he sounded more country than most of the music at the time coming out of Nashville. Charlie Rich threw a fit at the CMAs, but wasn't ole Charlie just as non country as Dever was. "Back Home Again, Some Days are Diamonds, I'm Sorry, Thank God I'm A Country Boy" are all stone country songs that still to this day are looked down on.This collection is pretty good. As far as I am concerened, you could take any recording John Denver ever made and call it country. And also, any greatest hits or best of collection of John Denver is never complete. This is at least better than those cheesy packaged greatest hits cd's from the 70's and early 80's. This makes a great cd for your car, now collection wise, it is for novice's. Go out and get one of those boxed sets if you are serious about music. | | | |
