Crushingly Powerful   (3 stars)
Amon Amarth crash through the beerier of the current millennium with power and aggression. As a fan of more recent albums I was stoked to find this, their third release, on Amazon.com. It delivers with a slightly more aggressive sound than Versus the World and later albums. It is not a drastic difference though as they seem to tweak themselves only slightly between each record so as not to have a carbon copy of a past album, yet not lose any fans. I dig this album, and it has the guitar sound I have come to know and love by this mountain of doom.
80/100, The vikings are back for more bloodshed.   (4 stars)
Amon Amarth comes back from the disappointing album The Avenger with The Crusher, a much appreciated improvement. It's not as technical or complicated as Once Sent From The Golden Hall, but it's still a large step up from The Avenger. An overall more melodic album, this is the sign of things to come for the band. The singer still belts out some of the most brutal and energizing lyrics I've heard and as always the music is a danger to play in the car because you may feel the need to headbang. The guitarwork is solid, nothing specacular but still very good. The drummer sounds pretty good as well, although I liked the drumming on Once Sent From The Golden Hall a lot better. The recording quality on this album is a little lacking in clarity. My favorite tracks on the album are "Bastards of a Lying Breed", "A Fury Divine" and "Eyes of Horror". A great viking metal album than any Nordic metalhead should feel comfortable headbanging to.
Amon Amarth's most diverse album   (4 stars)
Amon Amarth isnt a death metal band that is going to appeal to a large audience, even for "pure" death fans. They almost seem to have their own following, as its pretty much either you love them or hate them with no in between. Of course, this is just my opinion, but its a conclusion that I seem to draw from the reviews. Either Five to Four Stars, or one Star, and no in-between. I, on the other hand, seem to fit in with the very miniscule, that only likes a few songs of each album. I find most of their music repetitive, and even though I understand that this is the formula that makes them who they are, after awhile, I just cant seem to keep interest in their albums. I wound up making my own comp. of songs, just a few from each album, expect I did find "With oden at our Side" to be their best musically, but I feel that "The Crusher" to be the most diverse. Out of Ten Tracks, I liked Seven, and all the seven tracks that I liked seemed to sound a bit different from the other albums. There was more of a diversity on this album, Even though keeping the Viking Sound in check, It seems that they changed up the sound a bit by adding some more elements of Metal here such as Thrash, and a hint of Black Metal, which gives them as a whole a much more diversified sound that you get with your standard Amon Amarth albums. Even though I think "With Oden at our Side" is the best effort, dont short change "The Crusher" Its more of a unique Amon album, and even though some of it doesnt work, its nice to hear the band play some more diverse material.
Brutal..probably their best album.   (5 stars)
This is a great album from start to finish..the assault starts at track 1 and never lets up. Highly recommended!
Wow words defy me.   (5 stars)
Having heard a lot of metal this album is amazing. I wish I could call it a metal masterpiece but I ran into a lot of people who find something is missing with the album so blah I can never find what it is, imo it's perfect. This is Amon Amarth's heaviest CD so if your looking for something heavy this is the album to go to. The guitars are CRUSHING, the vocals are TEETHBREAKING, and the lyrics are FIERCE and all about vikings! Right from the start of the album the guitars explode and the vocalist lets off a loud growl that you just can't help but love it's amazing. In fact the song Releasing Surtur's Fire is all about the battle of Ragnaroch where every man in the world dies in the end just by the strike of a single hammer.

I can't find a single wrong with this album but a few other complaints I hear about the album is that it's: Boring, too straightforward, and it'sweaker than all of Amon Amarth's albums

I seriously can't figure out what these complaints mean imo it's as exciting and brutal as heck. I've heard stuff off of every Amon Amarth album and imo this album is by far the best. So if your welling to take a risk and see if you like this album or not give it a shot, the risk might be well worth it.
